2016 Inaugural Hall of Fame Banquet Recap

The Hot Springs Bison Athletics community officially launched a new tradition on Saturday, October 8, 2016, with the inaugural Bison Athletics Hall of Fame Induction Banquet, held at the Red Rock River Resort in downtown Hot Springs.

Following more than a year of planning, the event brought together alumni, former athletes, families, and supporters to celebrate the history and legacy of Hot Springs High School athletics. The evening began with a social hour, followed by dinner and a formal awards program recognizing the first seven Hall of Fame inductees.

Inaugural Class of Inductees

The inaugural Hall of Fame class represented a broad cross-section of athletic excellence, leadership, and service to Hot Springs athletics:

  • Chet Bruce (Posthumous) – Multi-sport standout and long-standing school record holder

  • Gerald Collogan – Athlete and contributor, state champion and Hall of Fame alumnus

  • Quinten Hofer – Multi-sport athlete excelling in football, basketball, and baseball

  • Paul Oberpriller – Elite athlete and multi-year Black Hills Conference honoree

  • Dave Scott (Posthumous) – Coach and administrator whose impact spanned decades

  • Jim Tays – Coach and administrator with lasting influence on Bison programs

  • 1974 Hot Springs Bison Football Team – Undefeated Black Hills Conference champions and state title winners

Each inductee was recognized not only for competitive success, but for character, leadership, and contributions that extended well beyond their playing years.

A Night of Reflection and Pride

The ceremony featured personal stories, reflections from teammates and family members, and recognition of the coaches and administrators who helped build the foundation of Bison Athletics. The induction of the 1974 football team served as a powerful reminder of one of the most dominant seasons in school history and the enduring bond among its members.

More than a celebration of past achievements, the event emphasized the purpose of the Hall of Fame itself: to preserve the history of Hot Springs athletics, honor those who built it, and inspire future generations of student-athletes.

Establishing a Lasting Tradition

The inaugural banquet marked the formal beginning of the Hot Springs Bison Athletics Hall of Fame, setting the standard for future induction classes and events. It reaffirmed the deep connection between Bison Athletics and the Hot Springs community, and created a permanent way to recognize excellence, commitment, and pride in the Blue and White.
